This is a generative mentorship for novelists that will help you finish your first draft, significantly improve your craft and/or rewriting skills, and transform your writing life.
This book mentorship is perfect for:
new novelists who do not yet have a complete draft, who want feedback on where they are at and help steering the story
the budding novelist looking for instruction, encouragement, and accountability
the novelist who wants all of the 1:1 support of Loom, but is perhaps a little less “ambitious” with their monthly word count goals (No judgement here! Slower progress is still progress!)
Experience level: intermediate to advanced
You don’t need a complete draft to begin, but you’ll benefit most from Loom if you have an established writing practice and some experience as a writer.
If you are looking to establish a writing practice with a monthly due date and check-in, check out Spindle.
For those with significant creative resistance or writers block, I highly suggest a coaching package of 5 or 10 calls before signing up for a mentorship with deadlines. In 5 sessions, I can help you uncover a blockage and give you the tools you need to shift it. Ongoing support can be extremely helpful when there are multiple mindset and lifestyle issues, and I love supporting a writer throughout the year.
You must be willing and able to work steadily so that you can get the most out of our time together. Six months seems like a long time, but if you have a very busy life, finding time for intense work can be challenging. We will work on all things story development: setting, character arcs, plot, scene and sequel, conflict, tension, black moment, and resolution.
Additionally, you must be ready to work on your creative blockages and challenges because this is about not just about willpower or hard work, it’s about changing how you live your creative life. No more excuses. No more hiding. No more living with your feet in two very different worlds.
What is this program like?
The first month, you’ll send me a brief summary or outline and up to 25 opening pages (about 6,250 words) of the project we’ll be working on. I’ll read it and then we’ll schedule a Creative Vision Call to discuss what your dreams and plans are for this project. From there, we’ll come up with a monthly due date for your pages and we’ll schedule your next month’s calls. From there, I’ll provide structure, accountability, and guidance as you write your book.
This mentorship includes lots of personal coaching, which is the best way to tackle mindset challenges like feeling small or stuck, fear of being judged, fear of failure (or success!), and perfectionism. We can talk about your submissions and/or marketing strategies when you’re nearing that stage. And if you’re into Tarot and Reiki or energy work, I’m happy to work those into our sessions.
Each month you’ll send me the pages we’ve talked about and/or exploratory writing challenges you’ve accepted to help you develop characters or other elements of story. Examples of exploratory writing: chapter summaries, character sketches, deep point of view character history, flashback fiction, book bibles, vision boards. These are things that don’t go into the book but help you nail your plot and character arcs. Exploratory writing can be fun AND strengthen your fiction.
Each month, you’ll receive:
*a written assessment of what I see as strengths and opportunities for improvement
*suggested reading and/or exploratory writing challenges
*a writing strategy session to discuss your monthly pages
*an empowerment coaching session to tackle any mindset, resistance, or lifestyle issues that will improve your creative process
*email access to me for weekly check-ins
*additional coaching calls or distance Reiki sessions are available at a VIP rate for existing clients
Please know you may not have a final draft when we’re finished working together. It depends on too many variables that I can’t control. But also know: I will work hard for you. I will meet you where you’re at. If you’re ready to seize this opportunity, you’ll leave our time together a more confident writer, knowing what you do well, what your trouble spots are, and feeling good about where your book is going.
